Artist Shirin Neshat uses art to connect with Iran.

Shirin Neshat is an iranian visual artist. At the age of 17 Neshat left her religious hometown in Iran to study art at the University of California, Berkley.

A few years later the revolution began. Neshat was left disconnected from her family. When she visited Iran and her family in her visit 11 years later, she found obsession in reconnecting and not wanting to let go.

“Making art was my way of retaining a connecting with my country.”

The emotions of being an outcast, displacement and living inside herself inspire Shirin Neshat to create with photo-, film- and videography.
